If parenting came with a manual, a whole section would be devoted to extracurricular activities. Navigating sports, lessons and clubs can be a challenge. Hopefully, this article will make scouting a little easier!
Like other activities, the process is:
- Choose to participate (contact us or come to our next Try Night).
- Register for membership (Join).
- Apply for a scholarship, if desired.
- Buy your uniform and book (new or used).
- Participate in activities (Stay connected on Facebook members group).
Cub Scouts is unique among youth activity programs because we encourage parents and caregivers to be part of everything we do. We strongly encourage parents to register with their children and most activities are designed for parent and child to do together.
Lion (kindergarten age) and Tiger (1st grade) scouts are required to have a parent participate with them.
But… why?
Scouting is about building values and relationships. The program encourages families to explore their faith and values together. For example, each year has a faith requirement and what that looks like is different for every family. Some children participate in a church and can earn a religious emblem for that faith. Other children may choose to complete a non-domination award or pursue a program that encourages your family to explore your faith in a way that is comfortable to you. We welcome people of all faiths and respect how you choose to explore that faith.
So join us for flag ceremony and play our games. Not only does your child benefit from spending time with you, but scouting is fun!
We encourage our families to take an active part in planning our schedule so that everyone has something to enjoy. Like model rockets? Help plan a rocket day! Like hiking? Suggest our next location.
Don’t worry, scouting doesn’t have to be a huge time commitment. Your scout will easily earn their ranks and awards if you participate in a one-hour meeting once a week and do a few activities at home, like encouraging your child to do their chores for two weeks or eat healthy meals – things you’re probably already doing!
Most importantly – ask questions. We want to be helpful!

What an amazing website for Pack 169! Thank you from all of us at Pack 169! We are so excited for what’s in store!!!
